Semicontinuous (Track 1)

FIRST READING

Isaiah 66:1-13

Verse 1. This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me? Or where will My place of repose be? Verse 2. Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being,” “This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word. Verse 3. Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who slays a man; whoever sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck; whoever presents a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood; whoever offers frankincense is like one who blesses an idol. Indeed, they have chosen their own ways and delighted in their abominations. Verse 4. So I will choose their punishment and I will bring terror upon them, because I called and no one answered, I spoke and no one listened. But they did evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.” Verse 5. You who tremble at His word, hear the word of the LORD: “Your brothers who hate you and exclude you because of My name have said, ‘Let the LORD be glorified that we may see your joy!’ But they will be put to shame.” Verse 6. Hear the uproar from the city; listen to the voice from the temple! It is the voice of the LORD, repaying His enemies what they deserve! Verse 7. “Before she was in labor, she gave birth; before she was in pain, she delivered a boy. Verse 8. Who has heard of such as this? Who has seen such things? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be delivered in an instant? Yet as soon as Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children. Verse 9. Shall I bring a baby to the point of birth and not deliver it?” says the LORD. “Or will I who deliver close the womb?” says your God. Verse 10. Be glad for Jerusalem and rejoice over her, all who love her. Rejoice greatly with her, all who mourn over her, Verse 11. so that you may nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you may drink deeply and delight yourselves in her glorious abundance. Verse 12. For this is what the LORD says: “I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flowing stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm, and bounced upon her knees. Verse 13. As a mother comforts her son, so will I comfort you, and you will be consoled over Jerusalem.”

Complementary (Track 2)

FIRST READING

Ezekiel 39:21-40:4

Verse 21. I will display My glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment that I execute and the hand that I lay upon them. Verse 22. From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God. Verse 23. And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword. Verse 24. I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid My face from them. Verse 25. Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for My holy name. Verse 26. They will forget their disgrace and all the treachery they committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to frighten them. Verse 27. When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them out of the lands of their enemies, I will show My holiness in them in the sight of many nations. Verse 28. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them behind after their exile among the nations. Verse 29. And I will no longer hide My face from them, for I will pour out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.” Verse 1. In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month — in the fourteenth year after Jerusalem had been struck down — on that very day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He took me there. Verse 2. In visions of God He took me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, on whose southern slope was a structure that resembled a city. Verse 3. So He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze. He was standing in the gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand. Verse 4. “Son of man,” he said to me, “look with your eyes, hear with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Report to the house of Israel everything you see.”

PSALM

Psalm 141

Verse 1. A Psalm of David. I call upon You, O LORD; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to You.
Verse 2. May my prayer be set before You like incense; my uplifted hands, like the evening offering.
Verse 3. Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.
Verse 4. Do not let my heart be drawn to any evil thing or take part in works of wickedness with men who do iniquity; let me not feast on their delicacies.
Verse 5. Let the righteous man strike me; let his rebuke be an act of loving devotion. It is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. For my prayer is ever against the deeds of the wicked.
Verse 6. When their rulers are thrown down from the cliffs, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasant.
Verse 7. As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol.
Verse 8. But my eyes are fixed on You, O GOD the Lord. In You I seek refuge; do not leave my soul defenseless.
Verse 9. Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, and from the lures of evildoers.
Verse 10. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.

SECOND READING

If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat anything set before you without raising questions of conscience. Verse 28. But if someone tells you, “This food was offered to idols,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience — Verse 29. the other one’s conscience, I mean, not your own. For why should my freedom be determined by someone else’s conscience? Verse 30. If I partake in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks? Verse 31. So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God. Verse 32. Do not become a stumbling block, whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God— Verse 33. as I also try to please everyone in all I do. For I am not seeking my own good, but the good of many, that they may be saved. Verse 1. You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.
