FIRST READING
Daniel 7:1-3, 15-18
Verse 1. In the first year of the reign of Belshazzar over Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he lay on his bed. He wrote down the dream, and this is the summary of his account. Verse 2. Daniel declared: “In my vision in the night I looked, and suddenly the four winds of heaven were churning up the great sea. Verse 3. Then four great beasts came up out of the sea, each one different from the others: Verse 15. I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit, and the visions in my mind alarmed me. Verse 16. I approached one of those who were standing there, and I asked him the true meaning of all this. So he told me the interpretation of these things: Verse 17. ‘These four great beasts are four kings who will arise from the earth. Verse 18. But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom and possess it forever — yes, forever and ever.’
PSALM
Psalm 149
SECOND READING
Ephesians 1:11-23
Verse 11. In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will, Verse 12. in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory. Verse 13. And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth — the gospel of your salvation — you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, Verse 14. who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory. Verse 15. For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, Verse 16. I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, Verse 17. that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him. Verse 18. I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, Verse 19. and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength, Verse 20. which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, Verse 21. far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Verse 22. And God put everything under His feet and made Him head over everything for the church, Verse 23. which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
GOSPEL
Luke 6:20-31
Verse 20. Looking up at His disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Verse 21. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Verse 22. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man. Verse 23. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For their fathers treated the prophets in the same way. Verse 24. But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Verse 25. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. Verse 26. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers treated the false prophets in the same way. Verse 27. But to those of you who will listen, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, Verse 28. bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Verse 29. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your cloak, do not withhold your tunic as well. Verse 30. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what is yours, do not demand it back. Verse 31. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
