Semicontinuous (Track 1)

FIRST READING

Jeremiah 10:1-16

Verse 1. Hear the word that the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel. Verse 2. This is what the LORD says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by the signs in the heavens, though the nations themselves are terrified by them. Verse 3. For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut down a tree from the forest; it is shaped with a chisel by the hands of a craftsman. Verse 4. They adorn it with silver and gold and fasten it with hammer and nails, so that it will not totter. Verse 5. Like scarecrows in a cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them, for they can do no harm, and neither can they do any good.” Verse 6. There is none like You, O LORD. You are great, and Your name is mighty in power. Verse 7. Who would not fear You, O King of nations? This is Your due. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You. Verse 8. But they are altogether senseless and foolish, instructed by worthless idols made of wood! Verse 9. Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz — the work of a craftsman from the hands of a goldsmith. Their clothes are blue and purple, all fashioned by skilled workers. Verse 10. But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and eternal King. The earth quakes at His wrath, and the nations cannot endure His indignation. Verse 11. Thus you are to tell them: “These gods, who have made neither the heavens nor the earth, will perish from this earth and from under these heavens.” Verse 12. The LORD made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding. Verse 13. When He thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses. Verse 14. Every man is senseless and devoid of knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols. For his molten images are a fraud, and there is no breath in them. Verse 15. They are worthless, a work to be mocked. In the time of their punishment they will perish. Verse 16. The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance— the LORD of Hosts is His name.

PSALM

Psalm 106:40-48

Verse 40. So the anger of the LORD burned against His people, and He abhorred His own inheritance.
Verse 41. He delivered them into the hand of the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
Verse 42. Their enemies oppressed them and subdued them under their hand.
Verse 43. Many times He rescued them, but they were bent on rebellion and sank down in their iniquity.
Verse 44. Nevertheless He heard their cry; He took note of their distress.
Verse 45. And He remembered His covenant with them, and relented by the abundance of His loving devotion.
Verse 46. He made them objects of compassion to all who held them captive.
Verse 47. Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.
Verse 48. Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, “Amen!” Hallelujah!

Complementary (Track 2)

FIRST READING

Proverbs 17:1-5

Verse 1. Better a dry morsel in quietness than a house full of feasting with strife. Verse 2. A wise servant will rule over a disgraceful son and share his inheritance as one of the brothers. Verse 3. A crucible for silver and a furnace for gold, but the LORD is the tester of hearts. Verse 4. A wicked man listens to evil lips; a liar gives ear to a destructive tongue. Verse 5. He who mocks the poor insults their Maker; whoever gloats over calamity will not go unpunished.

PSALM

Psalm 12

Verse 1. For the choirmaster. According to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. Help, O LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men.
Verse 2. They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and a double heart.
Verse 3. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue.
Verse 4. They say, “With our tongues we will prevail. We own our lips— who can be our master?”
Verse 5. “For the cause of the oppressed and for the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.”
Verse 6. The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold.
Verse 7. You, O LORD, will keep us; You will forever guard us from this generation.
Verse 8. The wicked wander freely, and vileness is exalted among men.

SECOND READING

1 Corinthians 9:19-23

Verse 19. Though I am free of obligation to anyone, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. Verse 20. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), to win those under the law. Verse 21. To those without the law I became like one without the law (though I am not outside the law of God but am under the law of Christ), to win those without the law. Verse 22. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. Verse 23. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.
