FIRST READING
Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28
Verse 11. At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A searing wind from the barren heights in the desert blows toward the daughter of My people, but not to winnow or to sift; Verse 12. a wind too strong for that comes from Me. Now I also pronounce judgments against them.” Verse 22. “For My people are fools; they have not known Me. They are foolish children, without understanding. They are skilled in doing evil, but they know not how to do good.” Verse 23. I looked at the earth, and it was formless and void; I looked to the heavens, and they had no light. Verse 24. I looked at the mountains, and behold, they were quaking; all the hills were swaying. Verse 25. I looked, and no man was left; all the birds of the air had fled. Verse 26. I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert. All its cities were torn down before the LORD, before His fierce anger. Verse 27. For this is what the LORD says: “The whole land will be desolate, but I will not finish its destruction. Verse 28. Therefore the earth will mourn and the heavens above will grow dark. I have spoken, I have planned, and I will not relent or turn back.”

Complementary (Track 2)
FIRST READING
Exodus 32:7-14
Verse 7. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down at once, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. Verse 8. How quickly they have turned aside from the way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a molten calf and have bowed down to it. They have sacrificed to it and said, ‘These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’” Verse 9. The LORD also said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and they are indeed a stiff-necked people. Verse 10. Now leave Me alone, so that My anger may burn against them and consume them. Then I will make you into a great nation.” Verse 11. But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God, saying, “O LORD, why does Your anger burn against Your people, whom You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? Verse 12. Why should the Egyptians declare, ‘He brought them out with evil intent, to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce anger and relent from doing harm to Your people. Verse 13. Remember Your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to whom You swore by Your very self when You declared, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give your descendants all this land that I have promised, and it shall be their inheritance forever.’” Verse 14. So the LORD relented from the calamity He had threatened to bring on His people.

Psalm 51:1-10
SECOND READING
1 Timothy 1:12-17
Verse 12. I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, that He considered me faithful and appointed me to service. Verse 13. I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a violent man; yet because I had acted in ignorance and unbelief, I was shown mercy. Verse 14. And the grace of our Lord overflowed to me, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Verse 15. This is a trustworthy saying, worthy of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst. Verse 16. But for this very reason I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His perfect patience as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Verse 17. Now to the King eternal, immortal, and invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
GOSPEL
Luke 15:1-10
Verse 1. Now all the tax collectors and sinners were gathering around to listen to Jesus. Verse 2. So the Pharisees and scribes began to grumble: “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Verse 3. Then Jesus told them this parable: Verse 4. “What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the pasture and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? Verse 5. And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders, Verse 6. comes home, and calls together his friends and neighbors to tell them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep!’ Verse 7. I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous ones who do not need to repent. Verse 8. Or what woman who has ten silver coins and loses one of them does not light a lamp, sweep her house, and search carefully until she finds it? Verse 9. And when she finds it, she calls together her friends and neighbors to say, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost coin.’ Verse 10. In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”
