Semicontinuous (Track 1)

FIRST READING

Amos 7:7-17

Verse 7. This is what He showed me: Behold, the Lord was standing by a wall true to plumb, with a plumb line in His hand. Verse 8. “Amos, what do you see?” asked the LORD. “A plumb line,” I replied. “Behold,” said the Lord, “I am setting a plumb line among My people Israel; I will no longer spare them: Verse 9. The high places of Isaac will be deserted, and the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise up against the house of Jeroboam with My sword.” Verse 10. Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words, Verse 11. for this is what Amos has said: ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will surely go into exile, away from their homeland.’” Verse 12. And Amaziah said to Amos, “Go away, you seer! Flee to the land of Judah; earn your bread there and do your prophesying there. Verse 13. But never prophesy at Bethel again, because it is the sanctuary of the king and the temple of the kingdom.” Verse 14. “I was not a prophet,” Amos replied, “nor was I the son of a prophet; rather, I was a herdsman and a tender of sycamore-fig trees. Verse 15. But the LORD took me from following the flock and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’ Verse 16. Now, therefore, hear the word of the LORD. You say: ‘Do not prophesy against Israel; do not preach against the house of Isaac.’ Verse 17. Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword. Your land will be divided by a measuring line, and you yourself will die on pagan soil. And Israel will surely go into exile, away from their homeland.’”

GOSPEL

Luke 10:25-37

Verse 25. One day an expert in the law stood up to test Him. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Verse 26. “What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you read it?” Verse 27. He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” Verse 28. “You have answered correctly,” Jesus said. “Do this and you will live.” Verse 29. But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Verse 30. Jesus took up this question and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Verse 31. Now by chance a priest was going down the same road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Verse 32. So too, when a Levite came to that spot and saw him, he passed by on the other side. Verse 33. But a Samaritan on a journey came upon him, and when he saw him, he had compassion. Verse 34. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. Verse 35. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and on my return I will repay you for any additional expense.’ Verse 36. Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” Verse 37. “The one who showed him mercy,” replied the expert in the law. Then Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
