2 Kings 5:19b-27
Verse 19. But after Naaman had traveled a short distance, Verse 20. Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my master has spared this Aramean, Naaman, by not accepting what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.” Verse 21. So Gehazi pursued Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and asked, “Is everything all right?” Verse 22. “Everything is all right,” Gehazi replied. “My master has sent me to say, ‘Look, two young men from the sons of the prophets have just now come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.’” Verse 23. But Naaman insisted, “Please, take two talents.” And he urged Gehazi to accept them. Then he tied up two talents of silver in two bags along with two sets of clothing and gave them to two of his servants, who carried them ahead of Gehazi. Verse 24. When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the gifts from the servants and stored them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they departed. Verse 25. When Gehazi went in and stood before his master, Elisha asked him, “Gehazi, where have you been?” “Your servant did not go anywhere,” he replied. Verse 26. But Elisha questioned him, “Did not my spirit go with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to accept money and clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants and maidservants? Verse 27. Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and your descendants forever!” And as Gehazi left his presence, he was leprous— as white as snow.

Jeremiah 8:4-13
Verse 4. So you are to tell them this is what the LORD says: “Do men fall and not get up again? Does one turn away and not return? Verse 5. Why then have these people turned away? Why does Jerusalem always turn away? They cling to deceit; they refuse to return. Verse 6. I have listened and heard; they do not speak what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, asking, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone has pursued his own course like a horse charging into battle. Verse 7. Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons. The turtledove, the swift, and the thrush keep their time of migration, but My people do not know the requirements of the LORD. Verse 8. How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us,’ when in fact the lying pen of the scribes has produced a deception? Verse 9. The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and trapped. Since they have rejected the word of the LORD, what wisdom do they really have? Verse 10. Therefore I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners. For from the least of them to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice deceit. Verse 11. They dress the wound of the daughter of My people with very little care, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace at all. Verse 12. Are they ashamed of the abomination they have committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I punish them, they will collapse, says the LORD. Verse 13. I will take away their harvest, declares the LORD. There will be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the tree, and even the leaf will wither. Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.”

Acts 19:28-41
Verse 28. When the men heard this, they were enraged and began shouting, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” Verse 29. Soon the whole city was in disarray. They rushed together into the theatre, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia. Verse 30. Paul wanted to go before the assembly, but the disciples would not allow him. Verse 31. Even some of Paul’s friends who were officials of the province of Asia sent word to him, begging him not to venture into the theatre. Verse 32. Meanwhile the assembly was in turmoil. Some were shouting one thing and some another, and most of them did not even know why they were there. Verse 33. The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander forward to explain himself, and he motioned for silence so he could make his defense to the people. Verse 34. But when they realized that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” Verse 35. Finally the city clerk quieted the crowd and declared, “Men of Ephesus, doesn’t everyone know that the city of Ephesus is guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven? Verse 36. Since these things are undeniable, you ought to be calm and not do anything rash. Verse 37. For you have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed our temple nor blasphemed our goddess. Verse 38. So if Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a complaint against anyone, the courts are open and proconsuls are available. Let them bring charges against one another there. Verse 39. But if you are seeking anything beyond this, it must be settled in a legal assembly. Verse 40. For we are in jeopardy of being charged with rioting for today’s events, and we have no justification to account for this commotion.” Verse 41. After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.
