FIRST READING

Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31

Verse 1. Does not wisdom call out, and understanding raise her voice? Verse 2. On the heights overlooking the road, at the crossroads she takes her stand. Verse 3. Beside the gates to the city, at the entrances she cries out: Verse 4. “To you, O men, I call out, and my cry is to the sons of men. Verse 22. The LORD created me as His first course, before His works of old. Verse 23. From everlasting I was established, from the beginning, before the earth began. Verse 24. When there were no watery depths, I was brought forth, when no springs were overflowing with water. Verse 25. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth, Verse 26. before He made the land or fields, or any of the dust of the earth. Verse 27. I was there when He established the heavens, when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep, Verse 28. when He established the clouds above, when the fountains of the deep gushed forth, Verse 29. when He set a boundary for the sea, so that the waters would not surpass His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth. Verse 30. Then I was a skilled craftsman at His side, and His delight day by day, rejoicing always in His presence. Verse 31. I was rejoicing in His whole world, delighting together in the sons of men.

PSALM

Psalm 8

Verse 1. For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens.
Verse 2. From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise on account of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and avenger.
Verse 3. When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place —
Verse 4. what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
Verse 5. You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor.
Verse 6. You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet:
Verse 7. all sheep and oxen, and even the beasts of the field,
Verse 8. the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
Verse 9. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

SECOND READING

Romans 5:1-5

Verse 1. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Verse 2. through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Verse 3. Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; Verse 4. perseverance, character; and character, hope. Verse 5. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

GOSPEL

John 16:12-15

Verse 12. I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet bear to hear it. Verse 13. However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come. Verse 14. He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you. Verse 15. Everything that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take from what is Mine and disclose it to you.
