FIRST READING
Acts 16:9-15
Verse 9. During the night, Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Verse 10. As soon as Paul had seen the vision, we got ready to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. Verse 11. We sailed from Troas straight to Samothrace, and the following day on to Neapolis. Verse 12. From there we went to the Roman colony of Philippi, the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days. Verse 13. On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate along the river, where it was customary to find a place of prayer. After sitting down, we spoke to the women who had gathered there. Verse 14. Among those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. Verse 15. And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

GOSPEL
John 14:23-29
Verse 23. Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. Verse 24. Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me. Verse 25. All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you. Verse 26. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you. Verse 27. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid. Verse 28. You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. Verse 29. And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.

GOSPEL
John 5:1-9
Verse 1. Some time later there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Verse 2. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool with five covered colonnades, which in Hebrew is called Bethesda. Verse 3. On these walkways lay a great number of the sick, the blind, the lame, and the paralyzed. Verse 5. One man there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. Verse 6. When Jesus saw him lying there and realized that he had spent a long time in this condition, He asked him, “Do you want to get well?” Verse 7. “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am on my way, someone else goes in before me.” Verse 8. Then Jesus told him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.” Verse 9. Immediately the man was made well, and he picked up his mat and began to walk. Now this happened on the Sabbath day,
