Isaiah 65:17-25

Verse 17. For behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. Verse 18. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; for I will create Jerusalem to be a joy and its people to be a delight. Verse 19. I will rejoice in Jerusalem and take delight in My people. The sounds of weeping and crying will no longer be heard in her. Verse 20. No longer will a nursing infant live but a few days, or an old man fail to live out his years. For the youth will die at a hundred years, and he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. Verse 21. They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. Verse 22. No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For as is the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands. Verse 23. They will not labor in vain or bear children doomed to disaster; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD — they and their descendants with them. Verse 24. Even before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear. Verse 25. The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but the food of the serpent will be dust. They will neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain,”

1 Corinthians 15:19-26

Verse 19. If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men. Verse 20. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. Verse 21. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. Verse 22. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. Verse 23. But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him. Verse 24. Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power. Verse 25. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. Verse 26. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

GOSPEL

John 20:1-18

Verse 1. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. Verse 2. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,” she said, “and we do not know where they have put Him!” Verse 3. Then Peter and the other disciple set out for the tomb. Verse 4. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. Verse 5. He bent down and looked in at the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Verse 6. Simon Peter arrived just after him. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there. Verse 7. The cloth that had been around Jesus’ head was rolled up, lying separate from the linen cloths. Verse 8. Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in. And he saw and believed. Verse 9. For they still did not understand from the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. Verse 10. Then the disciples returned to their homes. Verse 11. But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent down to look into the tomb, Verse 12. and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and the other at the feet. Verse 13. “Woman, why are you weeping?” they asked. “Because they have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I do not know where they have put Him.” Verse 14. When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. But she did not recognize that it was Jesus. Verse 15. “Woman, why are you weeping?” Jesus asked. “Whom are you seeking?” Thinking He was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried Him off, tell me where you have put Him, and I will get Him.” Verse 16. Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” ( which means “Teacher” ). Verse 17. “Do not cling to Me,” Jesus said, “for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and tell My brothers, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’” Verse 18. Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what He had said to her.

GOSPEL

Luke 24:1-12

Verse 1. On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. Verse 2. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, Verse 3. but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. Verse 4. While they were puzzling over this, suddenly two men in radiant apparel stood beside them. Verse 5. As the women bowed their faces to the ground in terror, the two men asked them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? Verse 6. He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you while He was still in Galilee: Verse 7. ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.’ ” Verse 8. Then they remembered His words. Verse 9. And when they returned from the tomb, they reported all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. Verse 10. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. Verse 11. But their words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe the women. Verse 12. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. And after bending down and seeing only the linen cloths, he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
