FIRST READING
Jeremiah 13:12-19
Verse 12. Therefore you are to tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Every wineskin shall be filled with wine.’ And when they reply, ‘Don’t we surely know that every wineskin should be filled with wine?’ Verse 13. then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to fill with drunkenness all who live in this land— the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the people of Jerusalem. Verse 14. I will smash them against one another, fathers and sons alike, declares the LORD. I will allow no mercy or pity or compassion to keep Me from destroying them.’” Verse 15. Listen and give heed. Do not be arrogant, for the LORD has spoken. Verse 16. Give glory to the LORD your God before He brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the dusky mountains. You wait for light, but He turns it into deep gloom and thick darkness. Verse 17. But if you do not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride. My eyes will overflow with tears, because the LORD’s flock has been taken captive. Verse 18. Say to the king and to the queen mother: “Take a lowly seat, for your glorious crowns have fallen from your heads.” Verse 19. The cities of the Negev have been shut tight, and no one can open them. All Judah has been carried into exile, wholly taken captive.

SECOND READING
Acts 13:26-34
Verse 26. Brothers, children of Abraham, and you Gentiles who fear God, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. Verse 27. The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning Him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. Verse 28. And though they found no ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have Him executed. Verse 29. When they had carried out all that was written about Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb. Verse 30. But God raised Him from the dead, Verse 31. and for many days He was seen by those who had accompanied Him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now His witnesses to our people. Verse 32. And now we proclaim to you the good news: What God promised our fathers Verse 33. He has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: ‘You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.’ Verse 34. In fact, God raised Him from the dead, never to see decay. As He has said: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’
