Semicontinuous (Track 1)

FIRST READING

2 Kings 23:15-25

Verse 15. He even pulled down the altar at Bethel, the high place set up by Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin. Then he burned the high place, ground it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole. Verse 16. And as Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the hillside, and he sent someone to take the bones out of the tombs, and he burned them on the altar to defile it, according to the word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who had foretold these things. Verse 17. Then the king asked, “What is this monument I see?” And the men of the city replied, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done to the altar of Bethel.” Verse 18. “Let him rest,” said Josiah. “Do not let anyone disturb his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, along with those of the prophet who had come from Samaria. Verse 19. Just as Josiah had done at Bethel, so also in the cities of Samaria he removed all the shrines of the high places set up by the kings of Israel who had provoked the LORD to anger. Verse 20. On the altars he slaughtered all the priests of the high places, and he burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem. Verse 21. The king commanded all the people, “Keep the Passover of the LORD your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.” Verse 22. No such Passover had been observed from the days of the judges who had governed Israel through all the days of the kings of Israel and Judah. Verse 23. But in the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign, this Passover was observed to the LORD in Jerusalem. Verse 24. Furthermore, Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry out the words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD. Verse 25. Neither before nor after Josiah was there any king like him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, according to all the Law of Moses.

PSALM

Psalm 63

Verse 1. A Psalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God. Earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You. My body yearns for You in a dry and weary land without water.
Verse 2. So I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and glory.
Verse 3. Because Your loving devotion is better than life, my lips will glorify You.
Verse 4. So I will bless You as long as I live; in Your name I will lift my hands.
Verse 5. My soul is satisfied as with the richest of foods; with joyful lips my mouth will praise You.
Verse 6. When I remember You on my bed, I think of You through the watches of the night.
Verse 7. For You are my help; I will sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings.
Verse 8. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.
Verse 9. But those who seek my life to destroy it will go into the depths of the earth.
Verse 10. They will fall to the power of the sword; they will become a portion for foxes.
Verse 11. But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by Him will exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut.

Complementary (Track 2)

FIRST READING

Daniel 7:19-27

Verse 19. Then I wanted to know the true meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others — extremely terrifying — devouring and crushing with iron teeth and bronze claws, then trampling underfoot whatever was left. Verse 20. I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell— the horn whose appearance was more imposing than the others, with eyes and with a mouth that spoke words of arrogance. Verse 21. As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and prevailing against them, Verse 22. until the Ancient of Days arrived and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for them to possess the kingdom. Verse 23. This is what he said: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on the earth, different from all the other kingdoms, and it will devour the whole earth, trample it down, and crush it. Verse 24. And the ten horns are ten kings who will rise from this kingdom. After them another king, different from the earlier ones, will rise and subdue three kings. Verse 25. He will speak out against the Most High and oppress the saints of the Most High, intending to change the appointed times and laws; and the saints will be given into his hand for a time, and times, and half a time. Verse 26. But the court will convene, and his dominion will be taken away and completely destroyed forever. Verse 27. Then the sovereignty, dominion, and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven will be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will serve and obey Him.’

SECOND READING

Revelation 11:1-14

Verse 1. Then I was given a measuring rod like a staff and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers there. Verse 2. But exclude the courtyard outside the temple. Do not measure it, because it has been given over to the nations, and they will trample the holy city for 42 months. Verse 3. And I will empower my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” Verse 4. These witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. Verse 5. If anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouths and devours their enemies. In this way, anyone who wants to harm them must be killed. Verse 6. These witnesses have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall during the days of their prophecy, and power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish. Verse 7. When the two witnesses have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will wage war with them, and will overpower and kill them. Verse 8. Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city — figuratively called Sodom and Egypt — where their Lord was also crucified. Verse 9. For three and a half days all peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will view their bodies and will not permit them to be laid in a tomb. Verse 10. And those who dwell on the earth will gloat over them and celebrate and send one another gifts, because these two prophets had tormented them. Verse 11. But after the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered the two witnesses, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell upon those who saw them. Verse 12. And the witnesses heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Come up here.” And they went up to heaven in a cloud as their enemies watched them. Verse 13. And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand were killed in the quake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven. Verse 14. The second woe has passed. Behold, the third woe is coming shortly.
