1Verse 1. Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. His mother’s name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah; she was from Bozkath. 2Verse 2. And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left. 3Verse 3. Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, King Josiah sent the scribe, Shaphan son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, to the house of the LORD, saying, 4Verse 4. “Go up to Hilkiah the high priest and have him count the money that has been brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people. 5Verse 5. And let them deliver it into the hands of the supervisors of those doing the work on the house of the LORD, who in turn are to give it to the workmen repairing the damages to the house of the LORD — 6Verse 6. to the carpenters, builders, and masons — to buy timber and dressed stone to repair the temple. 7Verse 7. But they need not account for the money put into their hands, since they work with integrity.” 8Verse 8. Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD!” And he gave it to Shaphan, who read it. 9Verse 9. And Shaphan the scribe went to the king and reported, “Your servants have paid out the money that was found in the temple and have put it into the hands of the workers and supervisors of the house of the LORD.” 10Verse 10. Moreover , Shaphan the scribe told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.

And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2Verse 2. “Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre that this is what the Lord GOD says: Your heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea.’ Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god. 3Verse 3. Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you! 4Verse 4. By your wisdom and understanding you have gained your wealth and amassed gold and silver for your treasuries. 5Verse 5. By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, but your heart has grown proud because of it. 6Verse 6. Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you regard your heart as the heart of a god, 7Verse 7. behold, I will bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations. They will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and will defile your splendor. 8Verse 8. They will bring you down to the Pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas. 9Verse 9. Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’ in the presence of those who slay you? You will be only a man, not a god, in the hands of those who wound you. 10Verse 10. You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners. For I have spoken,
