1 Kings 8:22-30
Verse 22. Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven, Verse 23. and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth below, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts. Verse 24. You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day. Verse 25. Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’ Verse 26. And now, O God of Israel, please confirm what You promised to Your servant, my father David. Verse 27. But will God indeed dwell upon the earth? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built. Verse 28. Yet regard the prayer and plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You today. Verse 29. May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place. Verse 30. Hear the plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and forgive.

Zechariah 12:1-13:1
Verse 1. This is the burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. Thus declares the LORD, who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundation of the earth, who forms the spirit of man within him: Verse 2. “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples. Judah will be besieged, as well as Jerusalem. Verse 3. On that day, when all the nations of the earth gather against her, I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who would heave it away will be severely injured. Verse 4. On that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse with panic, and every rider with madness. I will keep a watchful eye on the house of Judah, but I will strike with blindness all the horses of the nations. Verse 5. Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts: ‘The people of Jerusalem are my strength, for the LORD of Hosts is their God.’ Verse 6. On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among the sheaves; they will consume all the peoples around them on the right and on the left, while the people of Jerusalem remain secure there. Verse 7. The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and of the people of Jerusalem may not be greater than that of Judah. Verse 8. On that day the LORD will defend the people of Jerusalem, so that the weakest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the LORD going before them. Verse 9. So on that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Verse 10. Then I will pour out on the house of David and on the people of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and prayer, and they will look on Me, the One they have pierced. They will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son. Verse 11. On that day the wailing in Jerusalem will be as great as the wailing of Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. Verse 12. The land will mourn, each clan on its own: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, Verse 13. the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, Verse 14. and all the remaining clans and their wives.[’’] Verse 1. “On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the people of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.

SECOND READING
Mark 13:9-23
Verse 9. So be on your guard. You will be delivered over to the councils and beaten in the synagogues. On My account you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. Verse 10. And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations. Verse 11. But when they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand what to say. Instead, speak whatever you are given at that time, for it will not be you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. Verse 12. Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. Verse 13. You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. Verse 14. So when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Verse 15. Let no one on the housetop go back inside to retrieve anything from his house. Verse 16. And let no one in the field return for his cloak. Verse 17. How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers! Verse 18. Pray that this will not occur in the winter. Verse 19. For those will be days of tribulation unseen from the beginning of God’s creation until now, and never to be seen again. Verse 20. If the Lord had not cut short those days, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has cut them short. Verse 21. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There He is!’ do not believe it. Verse 22. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive even the elect, if that were possible. Verse 23. So be on your guard; I have told you everything in advance.
