FIRST READING
Ruth 3:8-18
Verse 8. At midnight, Boaz was startled, turned over, and there lying at his feet was a woman! Verse 9. “Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she replied. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, for you are a kinsman-redeemer. ” Verse 10. Then Boaz said, “May the LORD bless you, my daughter. You have shown more kindness now than before, because you have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. Verse 11. And now do not be afraid, my daughter. I will do for you whatever you request, since all my fellow townspeople know that you are a woman of noble character. Verse 12. Yes, it is true that I am a kinsman-redeemer, but there is a redeemer nearer than I. Verse 13. Stay here tonight, and in the morning, if he wants to redeem you, good. Let him redeem you. But if he does not want to redeem you, as surely as the LORD lives, I will. Now lie here until morning.” Verse 14. So she lay down at his feet until morning, but she got up before anyone else could recognize her. Then Boaz said, “Do not let it be known that a woman came to the threshing floor.” Verse 15. And he told her, “Bring the shawl you are wearing and hold it out.” When she did so, he poured in six measures of barley and placed it on her. Then he went into the city. Verse 16. When Ruth returned to her mother-in-law, Naomi asked her, “How did it go, my daughter?” Then Ruth told her all that Boaz had done for her. Verse 17. And she said, “He gave me these six measures of barley, for he said, ‘Do not go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’” Verse 18. “Wait, my daughter,” said Naomi, “until you find out how things go, for he will not rest unless he has resolved the matter today.”

FIRST READING
Micah 6:1-8
Verse 1. Hear now what the LORD says: “Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. Verse 2. Hear, O mountains, the LORD’s indictment, you enduring foundations of the earth. For the LORD has a case against His people, and He will argue it against Israel: Verse 3. ‘My people, what have I done to you? Testify against Me how I have wearied you! Verse 4. For I brought you up from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery. I sent Moses before you, as well as Aaron and Miriam. Verse 5. My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you may acknowledge the righteousness of the LORD.’” Verse 6. With what shall I come before the LORD when I bow before the God on high? Should I come to Him with burnt offerings, with year-old calves? Verse 7. Would the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? Verse 8. He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

John 13:31-35
Verse 31. When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. Verse 32. If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify the Son in Himself — and will glorify Him at once. Verse 33. Little children, I am with you only a little while longer. You will look for Me, and as I said to the Jews, so now I say to you: ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ Verse 34. A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another. Verse 35. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
