FIRST READING

Job 42:1-6, 10-17

Verse 1. Then Job replied to the LORD: Verse 2. “I know that You can do all things and that no plan of Yours can be thwarted. Verse 3. You asked, ‘Who is this who conceals My counsel without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. Verse 4. You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak. I will question you, and you shall inform Me.’ Verse 5. My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You. Verse 6. Therefore I despise myself, and I repent in dust and ashes.” Verse 10. After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his prosperity and doubled his former possessions. Verse 11. All his brothers and sisters and prior acquaintances came and dined with him in his house. They consoled him and comforted him over all the adversity that the LORD had brought upon him. And each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring. Verse 12. So the LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his first. He owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. Verse 13. And he also had seven sons and three daughters. Verse 14. He named his first daughter Jemimah, his second Keziah, and his third Keren-happuch. Verse 15. No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance among their brothers. Verse 16. After this, Job lived 140 years and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. Verse 17. And so Job died, old and full of years.

Complementary (Track 2)

FIRST READING

Jeremiah 31:7-9

Verse 7. For this is what the LORD says: “Sing with joy for Jacob; shout for the foremost of the nations! Make your praises heard, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the remnant of Israel!’ Verse 8. Behold, I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, including the blind and the lame, expectant mothers and women in labor. They will return as a great assembly! Verse 9. They will come with weeping, and by their supplication I will lead them; I will make them walk beside streams of waters, on a level path where they will not stumble. For I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is My firstborn.”

PSALM

Psalm 126

Verse 1. A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the captives of Zion, we were like dreamers.
Verse 2. Then our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
Verse 3. The LORD has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
Verse 4. Restore our captives, O LORD, like streams in the Negev.
Verse 5. Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.
Verse 6. He who goes out weeping, bearing a trail of seed, will surely return with shouts of joy, carrying sheaves of grain.

SECOND READING

Hebrews 7:23-28

Verse 23. Now there have been many other priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office. Verse 24. But because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Verse 25. Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them. Verse 26. Such a high priest truly befits us — One who is holy, innocent, undefiled, set apart from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Verse 27. Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself. Verse 28. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

GOSPEL

Mark 10:46-52

Verse 46. Next, they came to Jericho. And as Jesus and His disciples were leaving Jericho with a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting beside the road. Verse 47. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Verse 48. Many people admonished him to be silent, but he cried out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Verse 49. Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man. “Take courage!” they said. “Get up! He is calling for you.” Verse 50. Throwing off his cloak, Bartimaeus jumped up and came to Jesus. Verse 51. “What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabboni,” said the blind man, “let me see again.” Verse 52. “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
