FIRST READING
Genesis 2:18-24
Verse 18. The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.” Verse 19. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. Verse 20. The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. Verse 21. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh. Verse 22. And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him. Verse 23. And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.” Verse 24. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
PSALM

SECOND READING
Hebrews 1:1-4, 2:5-12
Verse 1. On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets. Verse 2. But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. Verse 3. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Verse 4. So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.
GOSPEL
Mark 10:2-16
Verse 2. Some Pharisees came to test Him. “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” they inquired. Verse 3. “What did Moses command you?” He replied. Verse 4. They answered, “Moses permitted a man to write his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away.” Verse 5. But Jesus told them, “Moses wrote this commandment for you because of your hardness of heart. Verse 6. However, from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ Verse 7. ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, Verse 8. and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Verse 9. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” Verse 10. When they were back inside the house, the disciples asked Jesus about this matter. Verse 11. So He told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. Verse 12. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” Verse 13. Now people were bringing the little children to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them, and the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Verse 14. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Verse 15. Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Verse 16. And He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.
