PSALM

Psalm 26

Verse 1. Of David. Vindicate me, O LORD! For I have walked with integrity; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.
Verse 2. Test me, O LORD, and try me; examine my heart and mind.
Verse 3. For Your loving devotion is before my eyes, and I have walked in Your truth.
Verse 4. I do not sit with deceitful men, nor keep company with hypocrites.
Verse 5. I hate the mob of evildoers, and refuse to sit with the wicked.
Verse 6. I wash my hands in innocence that I may go about Your altar, O LORD,
Verse 7. to raise my voice in thanksgiving and declare all Your wonderful works.
Verse 8. O LORD, I love the house where You dwell, the place where Your glory resides.
Verse 9. Do not take my soul away with sinners, or my life with men of bloodshed,
Verse 10. in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right hands are full of bribes.
Verse 11. But I will walk with integrity; redeem me and be merciful to me.
Verse 12. My feet stand on level ground; in the congregations I will bless the LORD.

Complementary (Track 2)

FIRST READING

Genesis 20:1-18

Verse 1. Now Abraham journeyed from there to the region of the Negev and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While he was staying in Gerar, Verse 2. Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.” So Abimelech king of Gerar had Sarah brought to him. Verse 3. One night, however, God came to Abimelech in a dream and told him, “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken, for she is a married woman.” Verse 4. Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he replied, “Lord, would You destroy a nation even though it is innocent? Verse 5. Didn’t Abraham tell me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands.” Verse 6. Then God said to Abimelech in the dream, “Yes, I know that you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against Me. That is why I did not let you touch her. Verse 7. Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet; he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, be aware that you will surely die — you and all who belong to you.” Verse 8. Early the next morning Abimelech got up and summoned all his servants; and when he described to them all that had happened, the men were terrified. Verse 9. Then Abimelech called Abraham and asked, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought such tremendous guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should not be done.” Verse 10. Abimelech also asked Abraham, “What prompted you to do such a thing?” Verse 11. Abraham replied, “I thought to myself, ‘Surely there is no fear of God in this place. They will kill me on account of my wife.’ Verse 12. Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father — though not the daughter of my mother — and she became my wife. Verse 13. So when God had me journey from my father’s house, I said to Sarah, ‘This is how you can show your loyalty to me: Wherever we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’” Verse 14. So Abimelech brought sheep and cattle, menservants and maidservants, and he gave them to Abraham and restored his wife Sarah to him. Verse 15. And Abimelech said, “Look, my land is before you. Settle wherever you please.” Verse 16. And he said to Sarah, “See, I am giving your brother a thousand pieces of silver. It is your vindication before all who are with you; you are completely cleared.” Verse 17. Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maidservants, so that they could again bear children — Verse 18. for on account of Abraham’s wife Sarah, the LORD had completely closed all the wombs in Abimelech’s household.

PSALM

Psalm 8

Verse 1. For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens.
Verse 2. From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise on account of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and avenger.
Verse 3. When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place —
Verse 4. what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
Verse 5. You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor.
Verse 6. You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet:
Verse 7. all sheep and oxen, and even the beasts of the field,
Verse 8. the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
Verse 9. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

SECOND READING

Galatians 3:23-29

Verse 23. Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. Verse 24. So the law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Verse 25. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. Verse 26. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Verse 27. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Verse 28. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Verse 29. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
