Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven, Verse 23. and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth below, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts. Verse 24. You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day. Verse 25. Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’ Verse 26. And now, O God of Israel, please confirm what You promised to Your servant, my father David. Verse 27. But will God indeed dwell upon the earth? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built. Verse 28. Yet regard the prayer and plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You today. Verse 29. May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place. Verse 30. Hear the plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and forgive. Verse 41. And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your name— Verse 42. for they will hear of Your great name and mighty hand and outstretched arm— when he comes and prays toward this temple, Verse 43. then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.

GOSPEL

John 6:56-69

Verse 56. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. Verse 57. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. Verse 58. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your fathers, who ate the manna and died, the one who eats this bread will live forever.” Verse 59. Jesus said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. Verse 60. On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a difficult teaching. Who can accept it?” Verse 61. Aware that His disciples were grumbling about this teaching, Jesus asked them, “Does this offend you? Verse 62. Then what will happen if you see the Son of Man ascend to where He was before? Verse 63. The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. Verse 64. However, there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray Him.) Verse 65. Then Jesus said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has granted it to him.” Verse 66. From that time on many of His disciples turned back and no longer walked with Him. Verse 67. So Jesus asked the Twelve, “Do you want to leave too?” Verse 68. Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. Verse 69. We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God. ”
