Semicontinuous (Track 1)

FIRST READING

1 Kings 2:10-12; 3:3-14

Verse 10. Then David rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. Verse 11. The length of David’s reign over Israel was forty years — seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. Verse 12. So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his kingdom was firmly established. Verse 3. And Solomon loved the LORD and walked in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. Verse 4. Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for it was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on the altar there. Verse 5. One night at Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “Ask, and I will give it to you!” Verse 6. Solomon replied, “You have shown much loving devotion to Your servant, my father David, because he walked before You in faithfulness, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. And You have maintained this loving devotion by giving him a son to sit on his throne this very day. Verse 7. And now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in my father David’s place. But I am only a little child, not knowing how to go out or come in. Verse 8. Your servant is here among the people You have chosen, a people too numerous to count or number. Verse 9. Therefore give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to govern this great people of Yours?” Verse 10. Now it pleased the Lord that Solomon had made this request. Verse 11. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this instead of requesting long life or wealth for yourself or death for your enemies — but you have asked for discernment to administer justice — Verse 12. behold, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been another like you, nor will there ever be. Verse 13. Moreover, I will give you what you did not request — both riches and honor — so that during all your days no man in any kingdom will be your equal. Verse 14. So if you walk in My ways and keep My statutes and commandments, just as your father David did, I will prolong your days.”

GOSPEL

John 6:51-58

Verse 51. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.” Verse 52. At this, the Jews began to argue among themselves, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” Verse 53. So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you. Verse 54. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. Verse 55. For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink. Verse 56. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. Verse 57. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. Verse 58. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your fathers, who ate the manna and died, the one who eats this bread will live forever.”
