Verse 8. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice.
Verse 9. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities.
Verse 10. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Verse 11. Cast me not away from Your presence; take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
Verse 12. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.

SECOND READING

Matthew 16:5-12

Verse 5. When they crossed to the other side, the disciples forgot to take bread. Verse 6. “Watch out!” Jesus told them. “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Verse 7. They discussed this among themselves and concluded, “It is because we did not bring any bread.” Verse 8. Aware of their conversation, Jesus said, “You of little faith, why are you debating among yourselves about having no bread? Verse 9. Do you still not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? Verse 10. Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? Verse 11. How do you not understand that I was not telling you about bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Verse 12. Then they understood that He was not telling them to beware of the leaven used in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
