FIRST READING
Isaiah 6:1-8
Verse 1. In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Verse 2. Above Him stood seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. Verse 3. And they were calling out to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; all the earth is full of His glory.” Verse 4. At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke. Verse 5. Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.” Verse 6. Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. Verse 7. And with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is atoned for.” Verse 8. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!”
PSALM
Psalm 29
SECOND READING
Romans 8:12-17
Verse 12. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. Verse 13. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Verse 14. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Verse 15. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption to sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” Verse 16. The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Verse 17. And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ — if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.
GOSPEL
John 3:1-17
Verse 1. Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. Verse 2. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with him.” Verse 3. Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. ” Verse 4. “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time to be born?” Verse 5. Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Verse 6. Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit. Verse 7. Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You must be born again.’ Verse 8. The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” Verse 9. “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. Verse 10. “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and you do not understand these things? Verse 11. Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony. Verse 12. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? Verse 13. No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven— the Son of Man. Verse 14. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, Verse 15. that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. Verse 16. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. Verse 17. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
