FIRST READING

Job 37:1-13

Verse 1. “At this my heart also pounds and leaps from its place. Verse 2. Listen closely to the thunder of His voice and the rumbling that comes from His mouth. Verse 3. He unleashes His lightning beneath the whole sky and sends it to the ends of the earth. Verse 4. Then there comes a roaring sound; He thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His voice resounds. Verse 5. God thunders wondrously with His voice; He does great things we cannot comprehend. Verse 6. For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the gentle rain, ‘Pour out a mighty downpour.’ Verse 7. He seals up the hand of every man, so that all men may know His work. Verse 8. The wild animals enter their lairs; they settle down in their dens. Verse 9. The tempest comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds. Verse 10. By the breath of God the ice is formed and the watery expanses are frozen. Verse 11. He loads the clouds with moisture; He scatters His lightning through them. Verse 12. They swirl about, whirling at His direction, accomplishing all that He commands over the face of all the earth. Verse 13. Whether for punishment or for His land, He accomplishes this in His loving devotion.

PSALM

Psalm 33:12-22

Verse 12. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance!
Verse 13. The LORD looks down from heaven; He sees all the sons of men.
Verse 14. From His dwelling place He gazes on all who inhabit the earth.
Verse 15. He shapes the hearts of each; He considers all their works.
Verse 16. No king is saved by his vast army; no warrior is delivered by his great strength.
Verse 17. A horse is a vain hope for salvation; even its great strength cannot save.
Verse 18. Surely the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His loving devotion
Verse 19. to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Verse 20. Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
Verse 21. For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name.
Verse 22. May Your loving devotion rest on us, O LORD, as we put our hope in You.

SECOND READING

1 Corinthians 15:50-57

Verse 50. Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Verse 51. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — Verse 52. in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. Verse 53. For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. Verse 54. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” Verse 55. “Where, O Death, is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting?” Verse 56. The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. Verse 57. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
