FIRST READING
Acts 1:15-17, 21-26
Verse 15. In those days Peter stood up among the brothers ( a gathering of about a hundred and twenty ) and said, Verse 16. “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit foretold through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus. Verse 17. He was one of our number and shared in this ministry.” Verse 21. Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Verse 22. beginning from John’s baptism until the day Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” Verse 23. So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Verse 24. And they prayed, “Lord, You know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two You have chosen Verse 25. to take up this ministry and apostleship, which Judas abandoned to go to his rightful place.” Verse 26. Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias. So he was added to the eleven apostles.

SECOND READING
1 John 5:9-13
Verse 9. Even if we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony that God has given about His Son. Verse 10. Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him; whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given about His Son. Verse 11. And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Verse 12. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. Verse 13. I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
GOSPEL
John 17:6-19
Verse 6. I have revealed Your name to those You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours; You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Verse 7. Now they know that everything You have given Me comes from You. Verse 8. For I have given them the words You gave Me, and they have received them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me. Verse 9. I ask on their behalf. I do not ask on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those You have given Me; for they are Yours. Verse 10. All I have is Yours, and all You have is Mine; and in them I have been glorified. Verse 11. I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by Your name, the name You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one. Verse 12. While I was with them, I protected and preserved them by Your name, the name You gave Me. Not one of them has been lost, except the son of destruction, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled. Verse 13. But now I am coming to You; and I am saying these things while I am in the world, so that they may have My joy fulfilled within them. Verse 14. I have given them Your word and the world has hated them. For they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Verse 15. I am not asking that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one. Verse 16. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Verse 17. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. Verse 18. As You sent Me into the world, I have also sent them into the world. Verse 19. For them I sanctify Myself, so that they too may be sanctified by the truth.
