FIRST READING

Hosea 5:15-6:6

Verse 15. Then I will return to My place until they admit their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.” Verse 1. Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us to pieces, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bind up our wounds. Verse 2. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His presence. Verse 3. So let us know — let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the rain, like the spring showers that water the earth. Verse 4. What shall I do with you, O Ephraim ? What shall I do with you, O Judah? For your loyalty is like a morning mist, like the early dew that vanishes. Verse 5. Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of My mouth, and My judgments go forth like lightning. Verse 6. For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

SECOND READING

2 John 1:1-6

Verse 1. The elder, To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth — and not I alone, but also all who know the truth — Verse 2. because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever: Verse 3. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, will be with us in truth and love. Verse 4. I was overjoyed to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father has commanded us. Verse 5. And now I urge you, dear lady — not as a new commandment to you, but one we have had from the beginning — that we love one another. Verse 6. And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the very commandment you have heard from the beginning, that you must walk in love.
