FIRST READING

Acts 3:1-10

Verse 1. One afternoon Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. Verse 2. And a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those entering the temple courts. Verse 3. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Verse 4. Peter looked directly at him, as did John. “Look at us!” said Peter. Verse 5. So the man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Verse 6. But Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk! ” Verse 7. Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were made strong. Verse 8. He sprang to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and leaping and praising God. Verse 9. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, Verse 10. they recognized him as the man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

PSALM

Psalm 4

Verse 1. For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved my distress; show me grace and hear my prayer.
Verse 2. How long, O men, will my honor be maligned? How long will you love vanity and seek after lies ?
Verse 3. Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him.
Verse 4. Be angry, yet do not sin; on your bed, search your heart and be still.
Verse 5. Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.
Verse 6. Many ask, “Who can show us the good?” Shine the light of Your face upon us, O LORD.
Verse 7. You have filled my heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound.
Verse 8. I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

SECOND READING

Luke 22:24-30

Verse 24. A dispute also arose among the disciples as to which of them should be considered the greatest. Verse 25. So Jesus declared, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them call themselves benefactors. Verse 26. But you shall not be like them. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who leads like the one who serves. Verse 27. For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines? But I am among you as one who serves. Verse 28. You are the ones who have stood by Me in My trials. Verse 29. And I bestow on you a kingdom, just as My Father has bestowed one on Me, Verse 30. so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
