FIRST READING

Exodus 15:22-27

Verse 22. Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the Desert of Shur. For three days they walked in the desert without finding water. Verse 23. And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the water there because it was bitter. (That is why it was named Marah.) Verse 24. So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Verse 25. And Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a log. And when he cast it into the waters, they were sweetened. There the LORD made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He tested them, Verse 26. saying, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” Verse 27. Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the waters.

SECOND READING

Hebrews 3:1-6

Verse 1. Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. Verse 2. He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. Verse 3. For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. Verse 4. And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Verse 5. Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later. Verse 6. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.
