FIRST READING

Jeremiah 20:14-18

Verse 14. Cursed be the day I was born! May the day my mother bore me never be blessed. Verse 15. Cursed be the man who brought my father the news, saying, “A son is born to you,” bringing him great joy. Verse 16. May that man be like the cities that the LORD overthrew without compassion. May he hear an outcry in the morning and a battle cry at noon, Verse 17. because he did not kill me in the womb so that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb forever enlarged. Verse 18. Why did I come out of the womb to see only trouble and sorrow, and to end my days in shame?

PSALM

Psalm 62:5-12

Verse 5. Rest in God alone, O my soul, for my hope comes from Him.
Verse 6. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will not be shaken.
Verse 7. My salvation and my honor rest on God, my strong rock; my refuge is in God.
Verse 8. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge.
Verse 9. Lowborn men are but a vapor; the exalted are but a lie. Weighed on the scale, they go up; together they are but a vapor.
Verse 10. Place no trust in extortion or false hope in stolen goods. If your riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.
Verse 11. God has spoken once; I have heard this twice: that power belongs to God,
Verse 12. and loving devotion to You, O Lord. For You will repay each man according to his deeds.

SECOND READING

Luke 10:13-16

Verse 13. Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. Verse 14. But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. Verse 15. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades! Verse 16. Whoever listens to you listens to Me; whoever rejects you rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
