FIRST READING

Exodus 31:1-11

Verse 1. Then the LORD said to Moses, Verse 2. “See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. Verse 3. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of craftsmanship, Verse 4. to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze, Verse 5. to cut gemstones for settings, and to carve wood, so that he may be a master of every craft. Verse 6. Moreover, I have selected Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, as his assistant. I have also given skill to all the craftsmen, that they may fashion all that I have commanded you: Verse 7. the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat upon it, and all the other furnishings of the tent— Verse 8. the table with its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, Verse 9. the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand— Verse 10. as well as the woven garments, both the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to serve as priests, Verse 11. in addition to the anointing oil and fragrant incense for the Holy Place. They are to make them according to all that I have commanded you.”

PSALM

Psalm 99

Verse 1. The LORD reigns; let the nations tremble! He is enthroned above the cherubim; let the earth quake!
Verse 2. Great is the LORD in Zion; He is exalted above all the peoples.
Verse 3. Let them praise Your great and awesome name — He is holy!
Verse 4. The mighty King loves justice. You have established equity; You have exercised justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Verse 5. Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His footstool; He is holy!
Verse 6. Moses and Aaron were among His priests; Samuel was among those who called on His name. They called to the LORD and He answered.
Verse 7. He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; they kept His decrees and the statutes He gave them.
Verse 8. O LORD our God, You answered them. You were a forgiving God to them, yet an avenger of their misdeeds.
Verse 9. Exalt the LORD our God and worship at His holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy.

FIRST READING

Deuteronomy 17:14-20

Verse 14. When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,” Verse 15. you are to appoint over yourselves the king whom the LORD your God shall choose. Appoint a king from among your brothers; you are not to set over yourselves a foreigner who is not one of your brothers. Verse 16. But the king must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire more horses, for the LORD has said, ‘You are never to go back that way again.’ Verse 17. He must not take many wives for himself, lest his heart go astray. He must not accumulate for himself large amounts of silver and gold. Verse 18. When he is seated on his royal throne, he must write for himself a copy of this instruction on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. Verse 19. It is to remain with him, and he is to read from it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the LORD his God by carefully observing all the words of this instruction and these statutes. Verse 20. Then his heart will not be exalted above his countrymen, and he will not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left, in order that he and his sons may reign many years over his kingdom in Israel.

PSALM

Psalm 96:1-9

Verse 1. Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Verse 2. Sing to the LORD, bless His name; proclaim His salvation day after day.
Verse 3. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.
Verse 4. For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
Verse 5. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but it is the LORD who made the heavens.
Verse 6. Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty fill His sanctuary.
Verse 7. Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Verse 8. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering and enter His courts.
Verse 9. Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth.

SECOND READING

1 Peter 5:1-5

Verse 1. As a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings, and a partaker of the glory to be revealed, I appeal to the elders among you: Verse 2. Be shepherds of God’s flock that is among you, watching over them not out of compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not out of greed, but out of eagerness; Verse 3. not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. Verse 4. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. Verse 5. Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
