FIRST READING
Numbers 11:1-9
Verse 1. Soon the people began to complain about their hardship in the hearing of the LORD, and when He heard them, His anger was kindled, and fire from the LORD blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp. Verse 2. And the people cried out to Moses, and he prayed to the LORD, and the fire died down. Verse 3. So that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the LORD had burned among them. Verse 4. Meanwhile, the rabble among them had a strong craving for other food, and again the Israelites wept and said, “Who will feed us meat? Verse 5. We remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt, along with the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic. Verse 6. But now our appetite is gone; there is nothing to see but this manna!” Verse 7. Now the manna resembled coriander seed, and its appearance was like that of gum resin. Verse 8. The people walked around and gathered it, ground it on a handmill or crushed it in a mortar, then boiled it in a cooking pot or shaped it into cakes. It tasted like pastry baked with fine oil. Verse 9. When the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna would fall with it.

Genesis 28:10-17
Verse 10. Meanwhile Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. Verse 11. On reaching a certain place, he spent the night there because the sun had set. And taking one of the stones from that place, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. Verse 12. And Jacob had a dream about a ladder that rested on the earth with its top reaching up to heaven, and God’s angels were going up and down the ladder. Verse 13. And there at the top the LORD was standing and saying, “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you now lie. Verse 14. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and east and north and south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. Verse 15. Look, I am with you, and I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Verse 16. When Jacob woke up, he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was unaware of it.” Verse 17. And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven!”

Romans 16:17-20
Verse 17. Now I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who create divisions and obstacles that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Turn away from them. Verse 18. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. Verse 19. Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice over you. But I want you to be wise about what is good and innocent about what is evil. Verse 20. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
