And nothing leavened shall be eaten. Verse 4. Today, in the month of Abib, you are leaving. Verse 5. And when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites — the land He swore to your fathers that He would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey — you shall keep this service in this month. Verse 6. For seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD. Verse 7. Unleavened bread shall be eaten during those seven days. Nothing leavened may be found among you, nor shall leaven be found anywhere within your borders. Verse 8. And on that day you are to explain to your son, ‘This is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ Verse 9. It shall be a sign for you on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that the Law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For with a mighty hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt. Verse 10. Therefore you shall keep this statute at the appointed time year after year.

Leviticus 16:1-5, 20-28

Verse 1. Now the LORD spoke to Moses after the death of two of Aaron’s sons when they approached the presence of the LORD. Verse 2. And the LORD said to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron not to enter freely into the Most Holy Place behind the veil in front of the mercy seat on the ark, or else he will die, because I appear in the cloud above the mercy seat. Verse 3. This is how Aaron is to enter the Holy Place: with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. Verse 4. He is to wear the sacred linen tunic, with linen undergarments. He must tie a linen sash around him and put on the linen turban. These are holy garments, and he must bathe himself with water before he wears them. Verse 5. And he shall take from the congregation of Israel two male goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering. Verse 20. When Aaron has finished purifying the Most Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he is to bring forward the live goat. Verse 21. Then he is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the iniquities and rebellious acts of the Israelites in regard to all their sins. He is to put them on the goat’s head and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man appointed for the task. Verse 22. The goat will carry on itself all their iniquities into a solitary place, and the man will release it into the wilderness. Verse 23. Then Aaron is to enter the Tent of Meeting, take off the linen garments he put on before entering the Most Holy Place, and leave them there. Verse 24. He is to bathe himself with water in a holy place and put on his own clothes. Then he must go out and sacrifice his burnt offering and the people’s burnt offering to make atonement for himself and for the people. Verse 25. He is also to burn the fat of the sin offering on the altar. Verse 26. The man who released the goat as the scapegoat must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water; afterward he may reenter the camp. Verse 27. SECOND READING

Matthew 21:18-22

Verse 18. In the morning, as Jesus was returning to the city, He was hungry. Verse 19. Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. “May you never bear fruit again!” He said. And immediately the tree withered. Verse 20. When the disciples saw this, they marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” Verse 21. “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. Verse 22. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
