FIRST READING

Exodus 12:1-14

Verse 1. Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, Verse 2. “This month is the beginning of months for you; it shall be the first month of your year. Verse 3. Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man must select a lamb for his family, one per household. Verse 4. If the household is too small for a whole lamb, they are to share with the nearest neighbor based on the number of people, and apportion the lamb accordingly. Verse 5. Your lamb must be an unblemished year-old male, and you may take it from the sheep or the goats. Verse 6. You must keep it until the fourteenth day of the month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel will slaughter the animals at twilight. Verse 7. They are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. Verse 8. They are to eat the meat that night, roasted over the fire, along with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Verse 9. Do not eat any of the meat raw or cooked in boiling water, but only roasted over the fire— its head and legs and inner parts. Verse 10. Do not leave any of it until morning; before the morning you must burn up any part that is left over. Verse 11. This is how you are to eat it: You must be fully dressed for travel, with your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. You are to eat in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover. Verse 12. On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. Verse 13. The blood on the houses where you are staying will be a sign; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will fall on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Verse 14. And this day will be a memorial for you, and you are to celebrate it as a feast to the LORD, as a permanent statute for the generations to come.

Ezekiel 33:7-11

Verse 7. As for you, O son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word from My mouth and give them the warning from Me. Verse 8. If I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ but you do not speak out to dissuade him from his way, then that wicked man will die in his iniquity, yet I will hold you accountable for his blood. Verse 9. But if you warn the wicked man to turn from his way, and he does not turn from it, he will die in his iniquity, but you will have saved your life. Verse 10. Now as for you, son of man, tell the house of Israel that this is what they have said: ‘Our transgressions and our sins are heavy upon us, and we are wasting away because of them! How can we live?’ Verse 11. Say to them: ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked should turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’

SECOND READING

Romans 13:8-14

Verse 8. Be indebted to no one, except to one another in love. For he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. Verse 9. The commandments “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and any other commandments, are summed up in this one decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Verse 10. Love does no wrong to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Verse 11. And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Verse 12. The night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Verse 13. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Verse 14. Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.

GOSPEL

Matthew 18:15-20

Verse 15. If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. Verse 16. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ Verse 17. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector. Verse 18. Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Verse 19. Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. Verse 20. For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.”
