Genesis 29:1-8
Verse 1. Jacob resumed his journey and came to the land of the people of the east. Verse 2. He looked and saw a well in the field, and near it lay three flocks of sheep, because the sheep were watered from this well. And a large stone covered the mouth of the well. Verse 3. When all the flocks had been gathered there, the shepherds would roll away the stone from the mouth of the well and water the sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well. Verse 4. “My brothers,” Jacob asked the shepherds, “where are you from?” “We are from Haran,” they answered. Verse 5. “Do you know Laban the grandson of Nahor?” Jacob asked. “We know him,” they replied. Verse 6. “Is he well?” Jacob inquired. “Yes,” they answered, “and here comes his daughter Rachel with his sheep.” Verse 7. “Look,” said Jacob, “it is still broad daylight; it is not yet time to gather the livestock. Water the sheep and take them back to pasture.” Verse 8. But they replied, “We cannot, until all the flocks have been gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”

I will carry out this very day exactly what I swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.” Verse 31. Bathsheba bowed facedown in homage to the king and said, “May my lord King David live forever!” Verse 32. Then King David said, “Call in for me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king. Verse 33. “Take my servants with you,” said the king. “Set my son Solomon on my own mule and take him down to Gihon. Verse 34. There Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet are to anoint him king over Israel. You are to blow the ram’s horn and declare, ‘Long live King Solomon!’ Verse 35. Then you shall go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. For I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.” Verse 36. “Amen,” replied Benaiah son of Jehoiada. “May the LORD, the God of my lord the king, so declare it. Verse 37. Just as the LORD was with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon and make his throne even greater than that of my lord King David.”

1 Corinthians 4:14-20
Verse 14. I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children. Verse 15. Even if you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Verse 16. Therefore I urge you to imitate me. Verse 17. That is why I have sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which is exactly what I teach everywhere in every church. Verse 18. Some of you have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you. Verse 19. But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not only what these arrogant people are saying, but what power they have. Verse 20. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.
