FIRST READING
Exodus 3:1-6
Verse 1. Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. Verse 2. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from within a bush. Moses saw the bush ablaze with fire, but it was not consumed. Verse 3. So Moses thought, “I must go over and see this marvelous sight. Why is the bush not burning up?” Verse 4. When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from within the bush, “Moses, Moses!” “Here I am,” he answered. Verse 5. “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Verse 6. Then He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

Isaiah 48:1-5
Verse 1. “Listen to this, O house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, who have descended from the line of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD, who invoke the God of Israel — but not in truth or righteousness — Verse 2. who indeed call yourselves after the holy city and lean on the God of Israel; the LORD of Hosts is His name. Verse 3. I foretold the former things long ago; they came out of My mouth and I proclaimed them. Suddenly I acted, and they came to pass. Verse 4. For I knew that you are stubborn; your neck is iron and your forehead is bronze. Verse 5. Therefore I declared it to you long ago; I announced it before it came to pass, so that you could not claim, ‘My idol has done this; my carved image and molten god has ordained it.’
PSALM
Psalm 65:9-13
SECOND READING
Romans 2:12-16
Verse 12. All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. Verse 13. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be declared righteous. Verse 14. Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. Verse 15. So they show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them Verse 16. on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Christ Jesus, as proclaimed by my gospel.
