FIRST READING

Job 38:39-39:12

Verse 39. Can you hunt the prey for a lioness or satisfy the hunger of young lions Verse 40. when they crouch in their dens and lie in wait in the thicket? Verse 41. Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God as they wander about for lack of food?[’’] Verse 1. “Do you know when mountain goats give birth? Have you watched the doe bear her fawn? Verse 2. Can you count the months they are pregnant? Do you know the time they give birth? Verse 3. They crouch down and bring forth their young; they deliver their newborn. Verse 4. Their young ones thrive and grow up in the open field; they leave and do not return. Verse 5. Who set the wild donkey free? Who released the swift donkey from the harness? Verse 6. I made the wilderness his home and the salt flats his dwelling. Verse 7. He scorns the tumult of the city and never hears the shouts of a driver. Verse 8. He roams the mountains for pasture, searching for any green thing. Verse 9. Will the wild ox consent to serve you? Will he stay by your manger at night? Verse 10. Can you hold him to the furrow with a harness? Will he plow the valleys behind you? Verse 11. Can you rely on his great strength? Will you leave your hard work to him? Verse 12. Can you trust him to bring in your grain and gather it to your threshing floor?

PSALM

Psalm 29

Verse 1. A Psalm of David. Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Verse 2. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.
Verse 3. The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders; the LORD is heard over many waters.
Verse 4. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.
Verse 5. The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD shatters the cedars of Lebanon.
Verse 6. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
Verse 7. The voice of the LORD strikes with flames of fire.
Verse 8. The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.
Verse 9. The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in His temple all cry, “Glory!”
Verse 10. The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever.
Verse 11. The LORD gives His people strength; the LORD blesses His people with peace.

SECOND READING

1 Corinthians 12:1-3

Verse 1. Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. Verse 2. You know that when you were pagans, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Verse 3. Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
