FIRST READING

2 Kings 2:13-15

Verse 13. Elisha also picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah, and he went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Verse 14. Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters. “Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” he asked. And when he had struck the waters, they parted to the right and to the left, and Elisha crossed over. Verse 15. When the sons of the prophets who were watching him from Jericho saw what had happened, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.

PSALM

Psalm 93

Verse 1. The LORD reigns! He is robed in majesty; the LORD has clothed and armed Himself with strength. The world indeed is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Verse 2. Your throne was established long ago; You are from all eternity.
Verse 3. The floodwaters have risen, O LORD; the rivers have raised their voice; the seas lift up their pounding waves.
Verse 4. Above the roar of many waters— the mighty breakers of the sea— the LORD on high is majestic.
Verse 5. Your testimonies are fully confirmed; holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, for all the days to come.

SECOND READING

John 8:21-30

Verse 21. Again He said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for Me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.” Verse 22. So the Jews began to ask, “Will He kill Himself, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’ ?” Verse 23. Then He told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Verse 24. That is why I told you that you would die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” Verse 25. “Who are You?” they asked. “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied. Verse 26. “I have much to say about you and much to judge. But the One who sent Me is truthful, and what I have heard from Him, I tell the world.” Verse 27. They did not understand that He was telling them about the Father. Verse 28. So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me. Verse 29. He who sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone, because I always do what pleases Him.” Verse 30. As Jesus spoke these things, many believed in Him.
