FIRST READING

Isaiah 2:1-5

Verse 1. This is the message that was revealed to Isaiah son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem: Verse 2. In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Verse 3. And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Verse 4. Then He will judge between the nations and arbitrate for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer take up the sword against nation, nor train anymore for war. Verse 5. Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.

SECOND READING

Romans 13:11-14

Verse 11. And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Verse 12. The night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Verse 13. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Verse 14. Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.

GOSPEL

Matthew 24:36-44

Verse 36. No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Verse 37. As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. Verse 38. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Verse 39. And they were oblivious until the flood came and swept them all away. So will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. Verse 40. Two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Verse 41. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Verse 42. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day on which your Lord will come. Verse 43. But understand this: If the homeowner had known in which watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. Verse 44. For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect.
